While most of us decided to use the onset of the pandemic to take a few days off, Sally got to work on a local business directory for the region she dearly loves. The effects of COVID-19 have been felt by so many businesses in the Clarence Valley, but their troubles didn’t start there.
Late 2019 and early 2020 saw severe drought, raging fires and destructive floods take a serious toll on the region. Just as locals began to mop up, they were forced to contend with an unknown and unpredictable virus. Disaster after disaster meant the region missed out on its usual influx of tourists across multiple holiday seasons. Many Clarence Valley businesses and primary producers were hit hard and it was no different for Sally. On more than one occasion, she had to defend her own home against blazes roaring towards the property with the intensity of a jet plane. Sally lost more than 40 acres of land and fencing in the process.
As a long-term Clarence Valley resident, Sally has close connections with many local business owners. She understands the impact of the area’s economic troubles, and has decided to put her years of experience as a TV commercial producer to good use. Sally has created the Clarence Valley Directory, a website dedicated to listing and showcasing the region’s many hard working businesses. Her love for the Valley runs deep, and after noticing that many of her businesses were doing it tough and unable to pay for listings, Sally decided to cover all of the costs herself.
Local businesses can now have their own page in the online Directory, and Sally has been busy creating highly engaging campaigns to make sure they get the recognition they deserve. Having only launched 6 weeks ago, the Directory is growing daily and has been extremely well received with locals and tourists alike thrilled to have access to a comprehensive and centralised list of nearby local businesses.
If you’re heading to the region, be sure to take a look at the Clarence Valley Directory and discover the amazing businesses located there.Back to Local Stories
