Ann, Founder, Master Pilates

This is Ann, the founder of Master Pilates in South Yarra. Ann moved to Melbourne when she was 18 to pursue Ballet full time. Sadly, just a year after moving she suffered a major back injury and began to use Pilates for her rehabilitation, which allowed her to recover and return to dance. After seeing the wonders it did for her recovery, Ann established Master Pilates in 2010 to spread awareness of the health benefits of Pilates, and to help others have a Pilates experience like her own.
Being forced to close doors twice for lockdowns forced Ann to think outside the box and come up with something new. First, Ann made sure that the team at Master Pilates could continue to serve their loyal clients and staff, and immediately offered online private classes and duets, which allowed them to keep all their team employed.
Ann says their clients loved the changes and immediately embraced them – many have said they will attend online classes even beyond the crisis, as they loved being able to continue Pilates from the comfort of their own home.
Aside from her online classes, Ann took the time to shake the business up, and embarked on her new project “The Bubble” alongside her husband. “The Bubble” is an online, on demand Pilates subscription that Ann hopes will spread the benefits of Pilates around Australia.
To return the favour to the community that has supported them so deeply, Master Pilates donates to over 10 local schools and childcare centres every year and has been a long-time supporter of the Social Opportunity Group that runs their local coffee shop.
Although Ann says she is just proud the team is surviving the pandemic, she is just one of many small business owners who although doing it tough, have been resilient and innovative throughout this tough time.Back to Local Stories
